CBO DONOR PROFILE: Bill Siskel

Bill Siskel is a retired businessman who lives in Highland Park. In addition to being a longstanding donor of College Bound Opportunities, he just completed his first year as a CBO mentor.

Why did you decide to become a CBO mentor?

Bill:  A long-time friend introduced me to CBO. I thought it was a worthy cause so I sent in a donation. Then, later, I became a mentor. I had available time and the idea of working with a student in high school and through college made sense in establishing and seeing my student earn his degree. The CBO program is unique.

Where is your CBO Scholar studying?
Bill:  This fall my student will attend Marquette University in Milwaukee.

In what ways are you able to support your CBO Scholar as his/her mentor?
Bill:  I see my role as building a relationship and being accessible for advice if needed. My prior experience may be helpful but keeping a relationship and open dialog is my role.

There are many worthy causes that merit special consideration and support. What is it about CBO that has led to both your involvement as a coach and generous donor?
Bill:  Our local high schools do an excellent job in preparing those students desiring a college education. Beyond that, CBO warrants community support to assist those students who have financial need but may not know how to go about obtaining financial aid for college.
